Test Environment
We grabbed two budget-friendly VPS plans from both providers and spun them up in different datacenters:
- VPS Server (New Jersey, US)
- Vultr (Singapore, Asia)
Configurations were modest โ think 1vCPU, 1GB RAM, 25โ40GB SSD. Just enough for realistic hosting needs like hobby projects, lightweight APIs, or entry-level business sites.
๐ Quick Vendor Intro
VPS Server
One of those VPS companies that kinda flies under the radar but offers solid flexibility. Easy control panel, decent global spread.
๐ Check Offers
Vultr
Known and loved (sometimes hated) for its global network and predictable pricing. Theyโve been adding features fast, including cloud firewall, startup scripts, block storage etc.

๐ก Performance Analysis
- Geekbench: Vultr leads with a ~15% stronger CPU, esp. on multi-core tasks.
- iPerf3: Vultr's Asia DC had solid throughput globally, while VPS Serverโs US node excelled in domestic routing.
- Sysbench: Both CPU results are decent. Vultr edges ahead slightly.
Side note: Vultr used AMD EPYC while VPS Server stuck to older Intel chips โ makes a diff in thread performance.
๐ค Real Usage Scenarios
Hereโs where each shines:
- VPS Server:
- Great for US-targeted content.
- Good baseline for game servers, private VPNs, or low-traffic WordPress sites.
- SSH responsiveness was snappy. โ
- Vultr:
- Best for global reach, especially in Asia.
- Lightweight Docker workloads, API servers, and latency-sensitive bots perform smoother.
- Also, prebuilt apps make quick deployment a breeze.
๐ FAQ
Q1: Can I run a Minecraft server on either VPS?
A1: Technically yes, but with 1GB RAM youโll need to tweak configs heavily. Not ideal.
Q2: Which provider had better uptime?
A2: In this short-term test, both had 100%. Over longer runs, Vultr tends to be more consistent.
Q3: Is bandwidth metered?
A3: Yes. VPS Server offers tiered bandwidth, Vultr gives a monthly transfer pool.
Q4: Can I deploy Windows?
A4: Vultr supports ISO upload and offers prebuilt Windows templates. VPS Server doesnโt officially support it.
Q5: Are snapshots supported?
A5: Only on Vultr unless you go for premium VPS plans on VPS Server.
Q6: Is DDoS protection available?
A6: Basic protection is included, but not enterprise-grade unless you pay extra.
Q7: Is it beginner-friendly?
A7: Vultr is a tad easier for newbies with its app marketplace.
๐ธ Cancellation & Refunds (Sort Of)
Provider | Trial? | Refund Policy | Starting Price |
---|---|---|---|
VPS Server | โ No | 7-day refund (iffy) | $4.99/mo |
Vultr | โ No | Prepay credits only | $5.00/mo |
๐ Real-World User Experience
To be honest, I didnโt expect VPS Server to hold up so well. Boot time was under 35 seconds, load was stable during 48-hour nginx stress test.
Vultr, on the other hand, was suspiciously smooth. The panel feels polished. Speed test latency from Tokyo was just 39ms (!).
One gripe though โ Vultrโs support? Meh. Took 14 hours to reply.
VPS Server was faster, actually. Who knew?
๐ Final Verdict
Category | Winner |
---|---|
CPU Power | Vultr |
Local US Speed | VPS Server |
Global Network | Vultr |
UI & Ease | Vultr |

๐ Verdict:
If you're targeting Asia or Global reach โ go with Vultr.
If your needs are more U.S.-centric or budget-driven โ VPS Server offers surprising value.
