So yeah, I kinda accidentally started a Shopify store (and why maybe you should too)

So yeah, I kinda accidentally started a Shopify store (and why maybe you should too)

Okay so real talk — I never really planned to be one of those “entrepreneur” people y’know?

Like… back in early 2023, I was just burnt out from my job, working from my kitchen table, juggling 3 Zoom calls and a cat that kept sitting on my keyboard (shoutout to Mochi 🐱). I wasn’t even tryna make a business… I just had this random idea at 2am (as one does) and ended up googling:

“how to sell stuff online without knowing anything” 😅

That’s literally how I found Shopify.

I thought it’d be hard af. It wasn’t.

Honestly? I thought setting up a store would be like… learning to code in Latin while juggling fire. But Shopify was weirdly chill?? Like drag-and-drop level chill. I had my lil online shop running in like 2 hours. (Okay, 3 if we count the meltdown over choosing a font — WHY are there so many fonts??)

I ain’t saying it’s all sunshine and sales from Day 1 — I had some rough patches too, like I definitely underpriced my stuff at the beginning 🙃… and don’t even get me started on shipping lol.

But the platform itself? Actually fun to use. It makes you want to keep tweaking things and playing around. I felt like I was building something for me, not some corporate-looking soulless thing.

It’s not just for “real” businesses, btw

Look, I don’t have a warehouse. I don’t even have a garage. My stock (at first) was like 20 units sitting under my bed next to a shoebox full of tangled cables I’ll never untangle.

But that’s the thing. You don’t need to be Amazon. Shopify kinda meets you where you’re at. Like:

  • You can sell handmade candles 🕯️ or digital planners or niche meme merch (I did all three, no lie).
  • You can start solo and grow if you feel like it. Or keep it small.
  • And if you’ve got zero design taste (hello it’s me 🙋‍♀️), there’s themes and templates that make things look nice without trying too hard.

But like… money?

Mmm ok this part’s tricky to talk about without sounding sales-y, but I’ll be honest.

My first month, I made… $126.37 (I still have the screenshot lol). Wasn’t crazy, but damn it felt real. That was money that came from my thing, not some manager patting me on the head for hitting KPIs or whatever.

Now it’s like 2 years later and this tiny side thing turned into a main thing. I’m not rich — but I’m free. And that, I didn’t even know I needed till I got it.

Just try it?

Not trying to convince anyone or like sell a dream or whatever. But if you’re even thinking about doing your own thing — art, services, ebooks, crochet octopuses (IYKYK) — just test it out. For real.

I’m not a guru. I’m just some person who got tired of “someday” and started on a Tuesday. Might be your turn too.

👉 Try it out here if you feel like it. No pressure or whatever:

Peace ✌️
